| Description |
The MS Shine Teen Health Network has targeted abstinence education as its primary health goal. The collaborative works to bring an abstinence message to local schools, extracurricular activities, and community events. Their goal is to reach every teenager at least 10 times before graduation with an abstinence message. |
| Services offered |
Each county provides abstinence education in every school each week, and holds at least one of the following events every school semester: county-wide lock-ins, youth rallies, abstinence rallies, concerts, and fund raisers. Counties also provide information for local health fairs, conduct speaking engagements, attend events that involve youth, and implement county-wide homecoming and prom campaigns. |
| Results |
Over 4,000 teenagers in the four county region have been reached with abstinence education. Sixteen girls have received referrals to doctors for pre-natal care, and many teenagers have been referred to doctors to discuss concerns over sexually transmitted diseases. |
